Witches Be Trippin'
So this weekend Frankie and I decided to say what the Hell, let's drive to LA so we can see movies in a cemetery.
Every summer for the last several years, Cinespia (an Italian portmanteau for movie spy) shows outdoor movies on the lawn of Hollywood Forever cemetery.
When I first heard "Hollywood Forever Cemetery" I had no real clue what they were talking about. When I last was there, it was the Hollywood Cemetery, and it was a run down ramshackle place that made most of it's money charging $500 for disinterments. Turns out it was owned by a guy named Roth, felon and millionaire. He bilked it as much as he could before he died. Then it was bought by the brothers Cassity, the white knights who renamed, restored, and renewed it into Hollywood Forever.
Great right? Except they were convicted of running a Ponzi scheme, much of which went to the cemetery renewal.
But that's all background. What you need to know is why we are driving on an incredibly short trip to see some movies, have a meal with family, and drive back.
So a few weeks ago, I'm chatting with my sister Heather and her daughter Kelsey and talking about coming down for a short visit to see Martha (who I haven't visited since January). Kelsey suggested we all go to Hollywood Forever to see a movie and I was like "Oh! I've wanted to do that FOREVER!"
Alas, the schedule for all of us to do that did not work out. However....
Frankie and I decided the idea was just too much fun not to do. So naturally we decided on the sleepover - three witch themed movies. Ending at 4am.
Because what one does, naturally, is drive several hundred miles, sleep in a graveyard, and drive several hundred miles back.
